pdfMachine merge is available to all pdfMachine ultimate users. If you do not have pdfMachine ultimate you can still use it in trial mode.

What does it do?

Mail merge that emails personalized PDF attachments, using Word, PowerPoint, Excel or HTML as merge templates.

Simple Example

You will need a merge template that has your text, layout and some merge fields that will be replaced with personalized information. You will also need a data source that contains  a list of all the personalized information that needs to go into each document.

You start with a merge template file.  This could be a Word, PowerPoint, Excel or HTML document. This will be the basis of the PDF that will be attached to each email sent. It contains the "merge fields" in double curly braces.

e.g. A Word document with the text:

You also need a "data source" file, where each row (apart from the header) is a "merge record".  This could be an Excel or CSV file such as:

pdfMachine merge will send an email for each merge record. Each email will have a PDF attachment, which will have all its "merge fields" substituted with data from the appropriate merge record.

Important note for existing users:
Merge field markers have changed from single curly brace to two curly braces. e.g.{email} now becomes {{email}}. This was done to be more consistent with Liquid templates.

Requirements

• pdfMachine ultimate
• Internet Explorer 8 (IE 9 or higher preferred)
• .net 4 full framework (installer will download if not installed)
• Operating System: Windows XP SP3, 2003, 2008, 2008R2, Vista, 7
• If your templates are Microsoft Office documents then you need 32bit Office (2007 or 2010)

Multiple Line Items in an email

Consecutive rows in the data source file that have the same email address can be "bundled" together and only one email is sent per bundle. This is great for handling data such as line items for invoices.
